Everything you need to know for your large family session in November & December!
Weather
This time of year can be very windy! Try booking the session towards the front end of your stay, that way If we need to reschedule due to weather we have the option.
The weather will affect the location of the session. Depending on which direction the wind is blowing out of will determine which side of the island we host the session on. For example ocean side locations include Hawks Cay, Isla Bella, Sombrero Beach, Sunset Park, Bahia Honda, & Coco Plum. Bayside locations include Tranquility Bay, Faro Blanco, & 7 mile.
Time
This time of year the sunset is early, much earlier than in summer. For young families this is a huge perk as it should not interfere with your child’s bedtime.
In November/December sunset ranges between 5:30-5:40pm. There are two time slots available for hosting a session. The hour before Sunset & two hours before sunset.
The hour before sunset is famously known as golden hour. During this time the light is very soft & flattering. It often has a gold hue to it thus the name golden hour.
Two hours before sunset & you get the bright blue hues on the water without the harsh light of mid day sun. This is one of my favorite times to host a session as the blue colors are amazing!
Family Size
80% of our sessions this time of year are with large families ranging between 7-25 people. If you are nervous to have your large family photographed, don’t be! Even for those that hate their photos being taken (I am talking to the men of the family), they always walk away saying it was painless, not so bad, & even fun haha.
Often times the families we photograph will be comprised of grandparents, parents, & grandkids. We always capture a few great group shots then break off into individual families & tons of other photo combinations. If you have special requests please let us know!
The more information you can provide us the better. Be sure to let us know if you have a unique family dynamic or if any members struggle with mobility or have a disability so we can better accommodate your family & plan accordingly.

Busy, Busy, Busy
Not only is this the busiest time of the year in the Keys, it is also our busiest time. We are usually double booked most days in November & December. Please be sure to reach out ahead of time to ensure you get a session reserved for you & your family. If you are interested in booking a session last minute, don’t feel deterred from reaching out! We are usually able to make something work to accommodate you & your family!
Due to the high volume in the keys, if you would like a family session on the beach, consider scheduling the session during a week day versus a weekend to beat the crowds.
If you are scheduling a session in hopes to have Christmas cards made with the photos, please be sure to pick your photos promptly so we can edit them early leaving you with plenty of time to have them printed & shipped. We also offer custom Christmas Cards in our final galleries, be sure to ask if interested!
